“I just wanted to reach out to let you know that I am SO incredibly impressed with the camp, volunteers, and activities. My kids LOVED the camp. They talked for hours about it and have wanted to teach their neighbor friends about everything as well. Thank you for offering this. Thank you to each volunteer and planner who made this happen. This was such a unique experience and I'm really grateful for it!”

Why Attend
Kids History Camp gives children the opportunity to build self-confidence while learning practical life skills—without modern technology. While many activities today revolve around screens and indoor time, our camp is intentionally technology-free and encourages kids to unplug. Most activities take place outdoors, rain or shine, where campers learn by doing through hands-on, immersive experiences that make history come alive.
How Kids Learn & Grow
Children rotated through hands-on learning stations designed to develop confidence, cooperation, and real-world skills. Activities such as archery, sewing, animal care, candle making, woodworking, gardening, fishing, and square dancing encouraged focus, patience, communication, and creativity. Technology-free environments allowed campers to fully engage, build friendships, and experience learning through movement and teamwork.

What’s the Cost & What to Bring
Cost:
Through fundraising efforts, we are able to offset the full $105 cost per camper, making Kids History Camp only $30 per camper. Thanks to generous sponsorships and donors, families can enjoy an affordable, high-quality camp experience.
What to Bring:

Kids History Camp provides scholarships to ensure every child can attend camp regardless of family financial circumstances. In addition, Camp offers experiences and
accommodation for youth of all ages and abilities.
Camp Impact & Vision
Kids History Camp helps children grow in confidence, independence, and essential life skills through technology-free, hands-on learning. By actively doing history—not just hearing about it—campers build problem-solving skills, teamwork, creativity, and resilience while developing a deeper connection to their community and heritage.

Central Minnesota kids don’t always get the chance to learn and play alongside children of different ages and backgrounds. This camp creates a fun, welcoming space where kids of all ages learn together and connect with caring volunteers ranging from teens to grandparents. Children from public school, homeschool, and those with special needs come together to explore history, make new friends, and enjoy hands-on activities in an inclusive, supportive environment.

In the past, children grew up in multi-generational families within close-knit communities. Kids History Camp brings that spirit back by serving as a melting pot for today’s communities. Through hands-on activities, the camp strives to provide historically and culturally accurate experiences that reflect the time period being explored, helping children learn, connect, and better understand life in the past.

"Wow, so impressed by this camp and the organization and planning that went into it. A real life Little House on the Prairie day. My daughter had a great day and I love that she was able to experience history coming alive! THANK YOU to all the volunteers who made this happen. This is very impressive for our little town!"

Kids History Camp is fully funded by individual donors and organizational sponsorships. With an annual budget of over $20,000, the camp continues year after year because of the value and support people like you see in this program. Your generosity helps make these meaningful experiences possible for children in our community.

Why Support Matters
Support for the Paynesville Historical Society directly impacts children by sustaining Kids History Camp—an inclusive, hands-on educational experience that builds confidence, life skills, and a lifelong appreciation for learning and community. Supporting the Paynesville Historical Society helps ensure this transformative opportunity continues for Central Minnesota kids.

Many of our volunteers came from the Paynesville area. Also, volunteers came from Alexandria, St. Paul, St. Cloud, Litchfield, Willmar, Albany, Sauk Center, Freeport, Watkins, Kimball, Eden Valley and more. and from several locations in Central Minnesota.
Volunteers ranged in age from 16 to 85 years. This multi-generational group interacted with the multi-aged kids groups, learning and enjoying each other!
Each of the volunteers provided a valuable service to make the camp run smoothly. We appreciated the time and talent donated to the camp by all volunteers.

The camp experience is provided by our sponsors. Businesses outside of Paynesville supported the cause because we made an intentional effort to recruit campers from Central Minnesota.
